Estoppel

Quick Definition

"A legal principle preventing a person from denying the truth of a statement they have made or facts they have led others to believe."

Estoppel precludes a party from retracting a representation if another party has relied on it to their detriment. It can be used as a defense but generally not as the basis of a claim.
